Josef Mayburger: A Piece of Salzburg
Universal talent, local hero, artist and simply part of Salzburg: Josef Mayburger (1814–1908) and the city have a close connection. He went down in history particularly in his role as local councillor and chair of the City Beautification Association when he saved various monuments from disappearing. At the same time, he stands for progress and innovative spirit. But it was the surrounding nature he loved most: the fantastic landscape of the Salzburg region. He immortalised it in innumerable paintings characterised by minute precision and a unique use of light.
Josef Mayburger was a visionary and mindful nature lover and wore his heart on his sleeve. A unique character who was committed to the bigger picture and had an eye for detail that knew no bounds. Taking inspiration from his work, we dedicate a hotel to him.
Josef Mayburger and our Hotel
His life was shaped by his passion for aesthetics, culture and the countryside around him. He could sink into the beauty of the Salzburg region for hours at a time and captured what he saw on canvas. The Mayburg Salzburg is a homage to his life‘s work and the beauty of things. This can be seen in playful modern details, such as the butterfly collections and the many landscape paintings by Mayburger displayed throughout the hotel. The colour concept, from earthy to rich blue-green tones, is characteristic of his works and affords the hotel a high recognition value.
